The Character Commission a piece
Portrait sculpture, made to order

A likeness worth keeping.

The Character makes considered portrait figures from photographs — a person, a pair, a family — sculpted by hand and finished properly, for somewhere permanent rather than a drawer.

  • Sculpted by hand
  • Digital proof before production
  • Mounted and boxed
How it works

How a commission works

Three steps, unhurried. Nothing is produced until you have seen it and said yes.

Send the photograph

One good photograph is enough. Natural light, face unobscured. Tell us what the piece is for and we will work to that.

Approve the sculpt

We sculpt, then send a proof for your approval. One round of revisions is included, and nothing enters production until you are satisfied.

It arrives boxed

Printed, hand-finished and mounted on a base, then packed and posted. Seven to fourteen days from approval.

No small print

What we will, and will not, promise

Nothing without your approval

You see a proof and sign it off. One revision is included. We do not produce a piece you have not seen.

Seven to fourteen days

From approval, not from order. Seasonal periods run longer and we will tell you before you commit, not after.

Made by hand, so not identical

Small variations in finish are part of a hand-made object. Genuine faults are remade or refunded within 30 days.

Occasional letters

New work, seasonal cut-off dates, and nothing else. A few times a year.
